Smart antennas use multiple arrays to identify the direction of a signal in order to locate and track an object. They can either be switched beam, which lets the antenna pick up several patterns, or adaptive array, where the beam can be pointed in any direction. These antennas incorporate an integrated GPS antenna, internal diversity cellular antennas, embedded wireless modem and GPS receiver, and control circuitry.
Leveraging our experience in M2M wireless modules, Laird Technologies designs smart antenna modules that incorporate cellular antenna systems with transceivers, satellite radio, GPS antenna systems with receivers, WiFi transceivers using 802.11 technology for a variety of communications, and CAN and optional AM/FM.
