Complete Wireless Communications Subsystem

The SDC-MSD30AG module is a dual-band solution - supporting IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g - with Summit brand hardware and software capabilities. Because it has the same interface, form factor, board connector, and pin definitions as the SDC-MSD10G module, the SDC-MSD30AG module provides a smooth upgrade path from 802.11b/g to 802.11a/b/g, enabling use of the 5 GHz band without any extra cost.

Compliance
Certifications Cisco_Compatible_35x30 Cisco Compatible Extensions (Version 4)
Warranty Limited Lifetime

All specifications are subject to change without notice

The SDC-SSD40NBT is certified for compliance to various CE, ETSI, FCC, Industry Canada, and Wi-Fi Alliance standards with certification to Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) specifications planned for the near term. The grants, approvals, and formal test reports associated with these certifications may be leveraged by Laird Technologies customers to achieve their required device certifications. The degree to which customers can leverage these Summit brand items is dependent upon the regulatory agency, industry body, and the type of end device.

If any additional information or guidance is required, please contact the Summit brand certifications group via email or by telephone at 330.434.7929.

CE / ETSI

The SDC-SSD40NBT has been tested for compliance to various CE and ETSI standards and specifications:

This testing was conducted with the following antennas:

These formal test reports may be leveraged by mobile and portable device vendors as part of their self declaration to obtain the CE mark required by members of the European Union. ETSI/CE rules differ from those of the FCC and IC in that there is no provision for a modular approval. All approvals and certifications must exist at the device level rather than the module (radio) level.

The SDC-SSD40NBT is fully compliant with Annex IV procedures in article 10.5 of R&TTE directive 99/5/EC.

Like all Summit brand devices, the SDC-SSD40NBT is fully compliant with European Union Directive 2003/95/EC or Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) as per our Declaration of Compliance.

In addition, Summit has secured a compliance certification in accordance with EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorization of Chemicals (REACH).

FCC

Summit has received the following FCC grants for the SDC-SSD40NBT (FCC identifier TWG-SDCSSD40NBT):

FCC Part 15.247 Subpart C

This grant relates to operation in the 2.412 to 2.462 GHz (ISM) and 5.745 to 5.805 GHz (UNII-3) frequency bands.

FCC Part 15.407 Subpart E

This grant relates to operation in the 5.180 to 5.240 GHz (UNII-1), 5.280 to 5.320 GHz (UNII-2), and 5.500 to 5.700 GHz (UNII-2 Extended) frequency bands.

These grants were secured using the following antennas:

The above grants are Modular Approvals. Specific limitations are indicated on each grant.

When using this grant, the SDC-SSD40NBT must be installed only in mobile devices (devices which typically operate at distances greater than 20cm, or 7.9 inches, from the human body). When certifying portable devices (those that typically operate at distances less than 20cm from the human body) a new grant must be secured by the device vendor.

Note: Summit test data may be leveraged by the device vendor to minimize the cost and time associated with the certification process.

Industry Canada

The SDC-SSD40NBT will be certified to the Industry Canada (IC) RSS-210 standard. IC 661A-SDCSSD40NBTcertification is based on FCC certification testing, using the same antennas and transmit power and covering the same frequency bands. Test reports and data sheets relevant to this certification will be available by the beginning of February 2012.

Australian/New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS)

The SDC-SSD40NBT is certified to the following Australian/New Zealand standard:

Wi-Fi Alliance

Summit has received an Embedded Client Certification to the following standards: 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, WPA (both personal and enterprise) and WPA2/802.11i (both personal and enterprise). For those host devices which include the SDC-SSD40NBT, the vendor may assert that their device incorporates a Wi-Fi Certified Embedded Client. The vendor need not be a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance to make this assertion but may not use the "Wi-Fi Certified" logo in conjunction with their device unless they themselves are a Wi-Fi Alliance member.

If the device vendor is a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance, they may have WFA certification transferred to them only if they integrate the already-certified module into their device in a "hands off" manner; in other words, make no changes during integration that would impact the way in which the module operates. Laird Technologies will provide consultative services to those vendors who choose to pursue a Wi-Fi Alliance certification for their Summit-equipped devices.

Cisco Compatible Extensions

Summit is a member of the Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) program and has a direct license from Cisco for intellectual property relating to the various versions of the CCX specifications. Summit has submitted the SDC-SSD40NBT to an authorized CCX test lab and has been found to be fully compliant with version 4 of the CCX specifications for application specific devices (ASDs). For those host devices which include the SDC-SSD40NBT, the vendor may assert that their device incorporates a Cisco Compatible radio module.

Device vendors who are members of the CCX program may also choose to secure CCX compliance for their end device. When incorporating the SDC-SSD40NBT into their product with the above software version, the vendor need not be a direct licensee for Cisco intellectual property. Rather, in this case the device vendor need only submit their SDC-SSD40NBT enabled device for CCX compliance testing to the version 4 test plan for ASDs. By leveraging Summit's "pre-approved" software and by testing to the same plan, the vendor has a greater assurance that their actual testing will result in end device compliance. Laird Technologies will provide consultative services to those vendors who choose to pursue CCX compliance for their Summit brand equipped devices.
